CBC4KIDS – Christmas Bird Count For Kids

December 28, 2019 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

On Saturday, December 28th from 12:30-3:30pm we will be having our 2nd annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4KIDS) at Canatara Park. A fun winter birdwatching event for kids aged 6-12 and families. Join us to learn about birds, connect with other young naturalists, and become a Citizen Scientist! FREE, RSVP today, limited spots!

We will be stationed at the buildings near the Animal Farm entrance. After registration, we will divide into teams and go exploring with a local birder. These experienced guides will show participants* how to identify local birdlife, use binoculars, and lead them to find and count birds for ~1hr. Binoculars and a spotting scope will be available for use thanks to a partnership between Vortex Canada, Nova Chemicals, and our club!

Following their adventures, teams will meet back for hot chocolate, a snack and share their observations. This information will be submitted through an online checklist and reported to eBird and Birds Canada, where it can be used in scientific research . Last year we counted 1260 total birds from 21 different species!

*participants must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the event
