At the end of April, earlier this year, I had the opportunity to volunteer with Carl and Rachel, the operators of the Native Territories Avian Research Project (NTARP). Several members of Lambton Wildlife attended and volunteered during the two day bird banding session. Eastern Hog-nosed Snake Spotted

The Eastern Hog-nosed snake is a threatened species in Ontario. During a fall hike recently in the Pinery, we spotted this young one lying in the leaves along the edge of a trail. We photographed it and then showed it to the Naturalists at the Visitor's Centre. They asked us to fill out a 'Species At Risk' form and to upload an image to their site. (more…)

Join Lambton Wildlife at the Lorne C. Henderson Conservation Area to experience nature at night. Take a walk around the park with only the moon as your light while Donica Abbinett helps you learn how to use all of your senses in the nocturnal world around you. November 15th is the last day for submissions into the Lambton Wildlife 2016 Photo Contest. If you haven't submitted an image in each category, you still have time! Trees of Mandaumin Woods

There are eleven species of trees in Mandaumin Woods, including the Shagbark Hickory (Carya ovata).  The Shagbark Hickory is interesting because of its shaggy appearance, which also makes it an easy tree to identify.  It is native to Canada and is extremely hard and dense making it very useful in making tool handles and furniture. A Wallaceburg company, Hillerich and Bradsby, once used Shagbark Hickory trees (among other kinds of wood) in the manufacture of baseball bats and other sporting equipment.  H&B were most famous for producing the Louisville Slugger Baseball bat. Water Levels at Pelee Island

During the LWI camping and birding trip to Pelee Island, May 5th to May 8th, 2016, we had the opportunity to walk a lot of Pelee Island and view the force of wind and water as we travelled from point to point. Walking to Fish Point on the south end of the island, we came across an area where sand and gravel had washed and blown inland 50 - 75 feet from the shore.
